This year Raleigh International gives young Malaysians the opportunity to embark on life-changing expeditions to Malaysia, Costa Rica-Nicaragua, Namibia & Ghana. These expeditions challenge young people, between the ages of 17 and 25 through community and conservation work in some of the world’s most remote destinations.   Cathay Pacific International Wilderness Experience 2006

After participating in the Cathay Pacific International Wilderness Experience (CXIWE) last year, Ng Pei Ying and Ong Szu Mei have become changed persons.They are more aware of the values of conserving and preserving the environment. Besides broadening their knowledge of the world, Ng and Ong also had the opportunity to meet like-minded youths and learn from each other’s cultures.

  Tips on US Applications

Yeoh Chen Chow provides some basic tips on the nightmarish process that is United States college applications (taken from ReCom.org):

I would provide here some basic information on US Universities applications, in view that not many is clear on that application process.

For US Universities application, the application deadline would be around November (for Early Decision/Early Action) and around end of December (for Regular Decision).   Young Global Citizens Project

The Young Global Citizens Project (YGCP) is a British Council initiative to bring together young people from Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and the United Kingdom for a grueling, physically challenging and intellectually stimulating ten day camp. YGCP is fully sponsored by the Connecting Futures program of the British Council. Ten young people will be selected from each of the five participating countries to take part in this camp.   Life in Japan

What I have written about is the system in Osaka. Now, I am going to share with you how I spent my scholarship there.For my 1st year in Japan, I stayed in the dormitory of OUFS. The rental is 25,900yen per month. In addition, we have to pay insurance costing around 2,000yen per month. For international calls, there is a card called Brastel International calling card. There are many scholarships offered to students from all over the world under the Japanese Government’s policy to increase the number of foreign students in Japan. Up till last year (2005), there has been a total of 121,812 foreign students studying in Japan, Out of the total, 9,891 students are sponsored by Japanese government, 1,903 students are sponsored by own countries and the rest are private students(110,018).   Telekom Scholarship

I just would like to give you a brief description about Telekom Sponsorship Program.

I think it could be one of the Sponsorship program in Malaysia that is the least rigorous in its selection process. But please don’t assume that it doesn’t come with a huge price. Standard rule for the bond is, ‘For every year they sponsor a student, the student would have to repay back by working with the firm for 2 years.’ So technically, a 10-year bond is the usual case.
